On March 1st, 1954 the Japanese fishing boat Lucky Dragon #5 (Daigo Fukuryū Maru) crew and catch was exposed to radioactive fallout from the Castle Bravo nuclear test at the nearby Bikini Atoll.  Afterwards several crew members developed radiation poisoning.  Learn more about how this event would later inspire numerous Japanese science-fiction movies to come in the following years including Godzilla, Mothra, the H-Man, and others.
